A 21-year-old man was bludgeoned to death by his friend near the Wilson Garden cemetery on Monday night for teasing his wife.

According to the police, the deceased Sharath, a resident of Anjaneya slum, was working as a painter.

The suspect Deepu, 22, was eking out a living by selling coffee and tea in parks.
They both were neighbours and good friends, but things turned ugly when Deepu’s wife complained to him that Sharath teased her constantly.Deepu had warned Sharath and asked him to stay away from his wife. But Sharath continued teasing Deepu’s wife who again complained to her husband, said the police. Both Sharath and Deepu had a heated argument over the issue and the family members consoled them.

However, Deepu decided to eliminate Sharath. On Monday night, he invited Sharath for a drink and both consumed liquor at a bar.

At around 1.30 am, as they were walking along the road near the Wilson Garden cemetery, Deepu assaulted Sharath, took him to an isolated place and bludgeoned him to death, said the police.

Body abandoned
On Tuesday morning, the public informed the police about a body lying on the road. The police visited the spot and identified the victim.

They also visited Sharath’s residence and questioned the neighbours who revealed that he and Deepu had fought over some issue recently. When the police questioned Deepu, he confessed to murdering Sharath.
