Duo held for pawning fake gold

The Basaveshwaranagar police arrested two persons after a private bank accused them of trying to pledge fake gold for availing a loan.

According to the police, on Wednesday, the duo visited a private bank in Basaveshwaranagar and tried to pledge gold to avail a loan. But the staff at the bank, on examining the gold, found it was fake. They informed the police who detained the duo.

During the interrogation, it was learnt that one person pledged gold in Mannapuram gold bank. Later one of the employees, along with the person who had pledged the gold, took the valuables to another gold bank and tried to pledge it to avail the loan amount.

However, the gold was found to be fake. It is suspected that the duo are friends and had planned to cheat the bank by pledging fake gold, said the police. “They are being interrogated to find out if more people are involved and how both of them are related.

Also, it is being verified as to how the employees at Mannapuram gold bank failed to check if the gold was fake or original. The names of the persons arrested will be disclosed only after the interrogation is complete,” said a senior police officer.
A case has been registered in Basaveshwaranagar police station.

Labourer clubbed to death
A 35-year-old construction labourer was clubbed to death by miscreants in Gottigere in Hulimavu early on Thursday morning.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Khwaja Hussain, a native of Kalaburagi.

He had come down to the City a few months ago and was working as a construction labourer. He was residing in an under construction building in Gottigere.

Around 4.30 am on Thursday, Hussain was clubbed to death and the assaulters fled the spot when he collapsed with severe head injuries, said the police.

The incident came to light around 7 am, when other labourers went to work. They alerted the police, who shifted the body for post-mortem.

They are questioning the labourers and are yet to identify the people behind the act. When the miscreants are arrested, the reason behind the murder can be ascertained, said the police.

The police suspect that Hussain was hit on the head with a log.
A case has been registered in Hulimavu police station.
