The wokers of Sullia Mandal BJP staged a hunger strike in front of the Mescom office in the town on Wednesday and sought the laying of 110 kv electric line to solve the power crisis.

The protesters raised slogans against the government and the energy minister and also sang songs in protest.

Sullia Mandal BJP President Harish Kanjipili said the party will carry forward the fight till their demand meets a logical end. The energy minister is busy misusing his power and the district in-charge minister is least bothered about the problem.

Cases have been lodged against poor who are questioning the government, he said and challenged the government to lodge cases on the protesters.

Zilla Panchayat member S N Manmatha said the BJP members, who are supposed to take out victory processions following the results of panchayat elections, are staging protests. The government is trying to suppress the voices of common people, he said and urged it to lodge a case against Energy Minister D K Shivakumar for abusing Sai Giridhar Rai.

If the Congress leaders are keen on solving power crisis, the BJP will support them, he said.

Zilla Panchayat former member Venkat Dambekodi charged that the government is neglecting the woes of people of Sullia. Instead of solving the issue, the district in-charge minister is abusing the legislators, he criticised.

BJP Backward Classes Morcha President Suresh Kanemaradka said the ministers in the State are getting people arrested for questioning the government while the prime minister responds to a letter by a common man.

Pambettadi Society Vice President Santhosh Jake asked the people to wave black flags in front of Minister Shivakumar.  Party leaders Vinay Kumar Kandadka, Mulia Keshava Bhat, Rakesh Rai Kedenji, Asha Thimmappa, Pushpavathi Balila and others took part in the hunger strike.
