Last Updated 02 March 2016, 18:19 IST

The Revenue Department officials staged a protest by tying a black ribbon against the State government’s decision to merge the employees of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj and other departments with the department.

They said the move is intended to fill the posts of Shirastedars and Deputy Tahsildar permanently.

The protest was held under the aegis of Karnataka State Government Revenue Department Employees’ Association on Wednesay.

The association’s district unit president M S Hemanth Kumar submitted a memorandum to chief minister through Deputy Commissioner S P Shadakshariswamy.

The post of Deputy Tahsildars and Shirastedars in the department are created through promotion. The government should immediately send back those from other departments. This would help the employees from the department to move to the highest posts. As many as 450 to 500 posts of Deputy Tahsildars and Shirastedars are lying vacant in the State. The Cadre and Recruitment Rules for providing promotion to an employee who has been serving in a single post for the last 20 to 30 years should be revised, they said.
