'Regular health checkups can help timely treatment of cancer'

 Proper awareness, regular health checkups and timely diagnosis will help detect cancer at an early stage, said A J Group of Institutions President A J Shetty.

He was presiding over the launch of the cancer awareness programme organised by the Cancer Information Education Communication Cell of the AJ Hospital and Research Centre, in association with Rotary International, at AJ Hospital in Mangaluru on Wednesday.

Dr Bharathesh Adiraj, governor of Rotary International District 3180, who inaugurated the programme, also stressed upon the need for early detection of cancer. The Rotary International organisation is focusing upon the key areas of timely detection of diseases through health camps and educating people on maternity and child health, he explained.

A J Hospital and Research Centre Medical Director Dr Prashanth Marla, Consultant Radiation Oncologist Dr Kamalaksh K Shenoy and Consultant Pain and Palliative care specialist Dr Naveen Rodrigues were present.
