Allahabad varsity students union president faces expulsion

The first woman president of the Allahabad Central University Students' Union, Richa Singh, faces expulsion after an inquiry revealed that her admission was in violation of the rules, though the probe blamed the university administration for the violation.

According to sources, the committee which had been formed by the vice-chancellor following a complaint from a candidate who had lost to Richa in the union polls last year, has submitted its report.

“The report has been submitted. It has found that Richa was given admission in the PhD course on a reserved seat. The V-C, who is currently out of station, will take a call on it after his return,” said a university official in Allahabad on Saturday.

Incidentally, the probe committee has said in its report that the fault lay in the university administration and Richa was not at fault. Sources said Richa might be stripped off of her post if her admission was cancelled by the V-C. In the event of her admission being cancelled, the university union president's post would go to the vice-president, who is from the ABVP.

Richa alleged that she was being targeted because she had lodged a complaint against the V-C who had appointed an official in the university despite the fact that the appointee faced charges of sexual harassment.
