Society accused of encroaching gomala land

Last Updated 17 February 2010, 19:51 IST

Addressing a press conference in Bangalore, he alleged that the Ministry of Communication Employees Co-operative Housing Society had encroached 200 acres 38 gunta land comprising survey no 21 in Hosahalli village, Jala hobli in Bangalore (North) taluk.

Chakrapani claimed that he had documentary evidence to prove that the society was trying to use the gomala land for residential purposes. The total worth of the property exceeded Rs 2,000 crore, he claimed.

Change of land use

He said Karnataka Land Corporation Limited Secretary had even objected to the call of objection by the Bangalore International Airport Area Planning Authority (BIAAPA) for change of land use of the land citing it was government gomala land. The Regional Commissioner in 2006, in a report, had stated that steps be taken to recover the land. However, no action has been taken so far, Chakrapani said.

He expressed surprise that Bytarayanapura legislator Krishna Byregowda had written to the BIAAPA secretary recommending change of land use. However, Byregowda said he had written the letter only in the interest of the members of the society and as their local elected representative.

Chakrapani said only a probe by the Lokayukta would expose the alleged land deal.
