Minister seeks project report on 25 PU college buildings

Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Ratnakar directed the Pre-University Board Deputy Director Chandrashekhar to submit a plan for constructing 25 PU college buildings in the district within eight days.

At a review meeting chaired by the minister, Chandrashekhar said 25 PU colleges are functioning in high school buildings. There is a shortage of lecturers and 18 colleges have no laboratories as well, he added. Then, the minister told him to submit the project report in detail.

The minister directed the Library Department officer to submit a report on repair of libraries in the district. MLA B B Ningaiah said PU colleges in rural areas should offer science and commerce courses. MLA G H Srinivas urged the minister to start PU colleges at Tarikere and Rangenahalli.

Fluoride content in water

The BEO said water at Chowlahiriyoor and Lakkavalli in Kadur taluk has fluoride content and these villages are facing acute shortage of water. Toilets have to be constructed at Ambedkar Nagarashaale, he added. The minister directed the officials to make a list of basic infrastructure facilities, including drinking water works and toilets needed for schools and colleges.

He expressed displeasure at the functioning of the Mass Education Department. “People have no knowledge on the functioning of the department. It should identify illiterates in all the gram panchayat limits and make them read and write.”

MLA M K Pranesh, DC S P Shadakshariswamy and ZP CEO Dr R Ragapriya were present.
