Deputy Commissioner Dr Vishal said road safety would be the priority after the completion of the national highway work in the district.

Speaking at a meeting of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) here, he said the national highway works in the district would get over by May, except for the stretch in the area covering Padubidri and some flyovers and underpass. Once the national highway works get over, rumble and speed breakers, would be put to prevent accidents, he stated.

He said rumble strips would be put at the junction that connects the feeder roads and the main stretch. Similar measures would be taken ensure safety measures on roads.

Misconceptions

The misconceptions among the people in some areas like Brahmavar and Ambalpadi about the proposed plan of the national highway, which includes either flyovers or underpasses, would be cleared. A meeting, comprising the national highway authorities and the aggrieved public, would be convened, he added.

He said the transport system in the district was always dominated by the private parties. Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) buses would now prove the existence of KSRTC.

The buses, would be made available by April 15 or April-end. In this backdrop, the district administration is considering the setting up of bus depots and bus stands on priority basis, he added.

Bus stop

The deputy commissioner said the bus stop for JNNURM buses would be built at old BEO office adjacent to the present city bus stop. The land has been handed over to KSRTC and the tender has been invited for dismantling the existing structure. These buses are intracity buses, he stated.

Vishal said measures have been taken to construct a bus stop for intercity buses at Mudanidamburu. He said a proposal for another bus depot is under consideration.

Measures would be taken against unauthorised autorickshaw stands and also licences would not be issued for buses on the route which are not al-weather roads, he reiterated.
