An official from the State Directorate of Medical Education said: “There were a few minor issues with the fee structure which have been resolved in a recently conducted meeting. Both the stakeholders have agreed to go by the last year’s fee structure and the seat-sharing formula between the government and the private college managements.”

The official said: “The stakeholders have arrived at a consensus and there is no doubt about it.

Once the decision on the fee structure and seat matrix for engineering courses is announced, the following day, the consensual agreement will be signed between the government and the private college managements.”

However, the private college managements chose to remain tight-lipped about the agreement for same seat ratio and fee structure.

The private managements had demanded the immediate implementation of Justice Gopal Gowda’s direction on the fee determination committee.

Another round of meeting between the government and the private engineering college managements has been scheduled on Friday, which would decide the final course fee and the seat matrix.

After several rounds of meetings between the private engineering college managements and the government, issues like increase in the fee of government quota seats in private colleges and a cut-off Common Entrance Test (CET) rank for the poor and meritorious rank students remain unresolved.

Amidst the much-hyped announcement of single CET, a few new engineering colleges declared their interest to join the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) which was welcomed by the Higher Education Department. However, no decision on the same has been announced.

On the other hand, an official from KEA, which executes the seat selection process for CET, said there was a dire need for a clear decision on the fee structure and seat matrix.
“The Authority has to send CET applications-cum-brochures to schools and colleges, which is an important task at present.”

“But without any consensus and clarity on the BE or MBBS courses, the process is being delayed. Students and school principals have been calling regarding the CET applications,”  the KEA official added.
