Fire scare at Vidhana Soudha

Last Updated 23 March 2016, 19:00 IST

The staff at the Vidhana Soudha went into a tizzy after they noticed smoke billowing from the third floor of the building on Wednesday morning. Later, it emerged that the smoke was from a faulty UPS inverter.

Around 10 am, the UPS inverter in the Issue and Dispatch wing of the finance department started emitting thick smoke, engulfing the entire room and spreading in the corridors, too. It created a panic among the employees who rushed out of their chambers.

The third floor houses the chambers of the chief minister and a number of ministers. The fire department officials said they received a call about the smoke on the third floor of the building and the staff were evacuated immediately. The firemen soon discovered the origin of the smoke was the UPS inverter and blamed it on possible heavy flow of power.

However, the Bescom officials, along with the fire department personnel, will conduct an investigation into the incident, sources said.
