Mercury drops further in north India, cold wave revives

Cold conditions also intensified in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh with minimum temperatures at some places falling by up to three notches below normal.
Srinagar recorded a minimum of minus 2.6 degrees Celsius against minus 2.2 deg C yesterday.

The famous hill resort of Pahalgam, in south Kashmir, was the coldest place in the valley with a low of minus 6.2 deg C followed by Kupwara in north Kashmir at minus 5 deg C.
The temperature of Qazigund and Kokernag in south Kashmir settled at minus 3.2 deg C and minus 1.9 deg C today.

Kargil and Leh in Ladakh region reeled under cold conditions with a minimum of minus 17.2 deg C and minus 16.2 deg C.
However, mercury rose in Jammu region and settled at a low of 7.6 deg C against 5.8 deg C yesterday.

The minimum temperatures hovered between one and three degrees Celsius below normal in most parts of Punjab and Haryana.
Karnal was the coldest place in Haryana with a low of 5.8 deg C, which was three notches below normal. Amritsar in Punjab had a low of six deg C, one notch below normal.
The Met office has forecast rainfall at isolated places in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, while mainly dry weather would prevail in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan.
