Common Law Admission Test today

Last Updated 30 May 2009, 16:41 IST

The common admission test is conducted for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses of 11 national-level law universities. Only about 1,100 seats are available in the national law universities. CLAT 2009 is the second common all-India test to be conducted by NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. It may be recalled that the first-ever CLAT was conducted by National Law School University of India (NLSIU) in 2008

Students qualifying in the test are eligible for admission to law universities in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Bhopal, Kolkata, Jodhpur, Raipur, Gandhinagar, Kanpur, Patiala, Patna and Kochi.

Certain changes would be accommodated in this year’s CLAT, but it will still contain 200 one-mark questions, like that of last year. There will be changes in the English and legal knowledge sections. The English section will now contain questions on comprehension and general english questions. There will also be 45 questions on legal aptitude, instead of legal reasoning.

The legal aptitude section would judge a candidate on his/her knowledge about current events in the legal world, important court rulings, judgments and other current affairs.

Students appearing for CLAT 2009 will have to use the admit cards issued for the earlier test.
