Need to be at our best, says  Du Plessis

Normally, South Africa are accustomed to setting world cups on fire at the group phase before allowing their nerves to get the better of them at the first hint of knockout. This World T20 things are somewhat different.

They lost the opening Super 10s Group 1 game against England, almost forcing them to win their remaining matches. The Proteas now take on West Indies on Friday where a defeat could leave their semifinal hopes in tatters but skipper Faf du Plessis sounded upbeat.

“As I said before the tournament, it’s a crazy strong tournament,” said Du Plessis. “I looked at the game last night, and India could have lost that game so many times, and they were seen as one of the favourites. So you can’t come here thinking that anything is going to be easy.

“Any team is as good as any other in these conditions. Obviously we would have liked to start that first game with a win after posting 229, but it didn’t work out that way for us. So now at least we know that we have to play our best cricket to get to the semifinals. It’s a nice boat to be in as well.”

South Africa will miss the services of JP Duminy due to injury and Du Plessis said it’s a big blow for his team  as he’ was an all-rounder who especially in these conditions could play a role with both bat and ball.
