Erratic power supply: Khader threatens stir against Mescom

Last Updated 19 February 2010, 16:37 IST

Addressing a news conference on Friday, he said that unscheduled load shedding has thrown lives of people out of gear. “On one hand, CM continues to talk of free and uninterrupted power supplies but on the other, electricity is not available even after paying money. Load shedding during nights has become a routine, due to which students are facing problems. Mescom is playing with the future of our students,” he said and added that due to inadequate power supply, small industries have closed down and no new big industries are ready to come to this district.

He said that the Government has been making statements about various new power production projects over the last two years but so far people have not seen one. Chattisgarh CM Raman Singh was called and felicitated but the status of the power project planned there is not made known to the people.

Khader said that after Eshwarappa stepped down from the Power Ministry, the portfolio has been taken over by CM, who has not been able to handle the same due to various other responsibilities. He opined that CM must hand over power ministry to some other MLA.

Partiality

Khader said that there is a requirement of 600 mw of power per day in 6 Malnad districts including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shimoga but only 450 mw is available now. Shimoga is supplied with 70 mw per day but Dakshina Kannada district is given much lesser power than Shimoga.

“Shimoga is CM Yeddyurappa’s district and hence it is given priority over other districts,” he said.

Khader said that the Government which provides crores of rupees for Chennamma Utsava, Krishnadevaraya Utsav, Pattadakal Utsav and Hampi Utsav is not releasing any funds for Abbakka Utsav. “Due to lack of funds, the utsav was stopped since few years. Funds must be allocated in the forthcoming budget,” he said.

Leaders Dinesh Rai, Sadashiva Ullal, Eshwar Ullal, Ismail and others were present.
