He has decided to sit in Vidhana Soudha at least three days in a week and review the departments’ works. And, he believes that such a step will also compel his ministerial colleagues to follow his footsteps.

Yeddyurappa, whose government celebrated its first anniversary on Saturday, said the challenge before his government is to speed up the governance and also deliver quality work. People expect a lot from the government, he said in an interaction with Deccan Herald on Saturday.

The CM said that Vidhana Soudha is like a Degula  (temple) and there will be sanctity for work if it is done from here. "We were busy in conducting various elections. Now we have to conduct reviews of work from Vidhana Soudha up to t he districts. Officials must understand that they have to perform. I have already reviewed the performance of 11 departments after the LS elections", he said.

Yeddyurappa said he will also hold meeting with his ministers at least one day in a month. He said that he would like a change in the administration including frequent reviews and a more effective Janaspandana programme across the state.

No cabinet expansion

To a question whether he would like to do away with non-performers in the Cabinet so that more efficient persons can come in, the CM said that he is satisfied with the work of every minister including the Independents in his cabinet. However, he admitted that some ministers should devote more time for work.

He reiterated that he had no intention of reshuffling the Cabinet at this juncture. "I will discuss the issue with the party leaders in Delhi and later take a decision", he added.
Asked whether he would continue with Operation Lotus, the CM replied in the negative. It was done to stabilise the party government. But there is no need to continue it, he said.

To a question as to whether the BJP did well in the LS elections because of weak Opposition, the CM did not offer a direct reply. But he listed various 'achievements' of his government which included maintaining power supply in the summer months, BPL card distribution to 28 lakh families etc.

Asked whether he was for giving suo moto power to the Lokayukta to conduct enquiry against legislators when they are found involved in corrupt act, Yeddyurappa remained evasive by saying the issue needs to be discussed. "Corruption is like cancer. All of us have to fight against it", he said.
