The nine-day Bengaluru festival of art, architecture and design will focus on re-designing public spaces with the help of private stakeholders and government agencies. The festival ‘Designuru’, which is organised by the Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IIID), Bengaluru, will start from April 2 here at the MG Road Metro Boulevard.

Gayathri Shetty, chairperson, IIID, Bengaluru, told reporters that the festival aims to create a dialogue among the residents of the City regarding community and public interest-based works on design, art and architecture, she said.

“Through several design urban interventions in various public spaces around the City, the festival seeks to draw a diverse public into an inclusive urban environment. Minister for Bengaluru Development and Town Planning K J George and BBMP Commissioner G Kumar Naik will be present on the occasion,” Shetty said, promising to re-design places like Church Street, Brigade Road and Cubbon Park in the first phase.

Apart from creating a platform for young architects and interior designers, the festival will feature exhibitions, workshops, programmes, activists and more. Panels of award winning interior designs will be on display. Students from various architecture and interior design colleges will also showcase their work through interactive stalls at the venue, said Dinesh Verma, secretary, IIID, Bengaluru.
