The state government on Saturday assured II PU (science) students that there would be no delay in the declaration of the results despite the postponement of the chemistry re-examination to April 12.

Besides, the Common Entrance Test (CET) 2016, too, would be held on May 4 and 5 in accordance with the original schedule. Newly-appointed director of the Department of Pre-University Education Ramegowda told DH on Saturday: “The results of the II PU exam will be announced as per schedule. Usually, the results are out by first or second week of May. As of now, no dates have been decided.”Primary and Secondary Education Minister Kimmane Ratnakar said that there would be no changes in CET dates. Speaking to reporters, the minister said chemistry re-examination had been scheduled for April 12 as CET was nearly a month away.

‘CET is a month away’

“The students do not need to keep preparing themselves time and again for the chemistry paper. I agree it has become an inconvenience, but this is not going to come in way of their CET preparations. Moreover, the CET exams are almost a month away. I have also held a meeting with the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) officials, and they don’t see any need to postpone the exams,” the minister added.

Ratnakar was closeted in his office for two hours with Ramegowda and another IAS officer P C Jaffer who have been directed to supervise the chemistry re-examination.

The minister also said that he would personally oversee the preparations and would leave Bengaluru only after April 12. The II PU examination schedule has gone haywire due to the leak in the Chemistry question paper on March 21 and again the leak of the re-examination question papers on March 31.

This forced the department to cancel the exam twice. The examinations that were supposed to conclude on March 28 will now end on April 12, if all goes well.

Students are anxious about the effects of these delays on entrance examinations for professional courses.
