'I am learning every day'

He is best known for his role of Lord Krishna in TV show Mahabharat but actor Saurabh Raj Jain is eager to explore new opportunities to refine his acting skills.

He had made his TV debut in a series called Remix in 2004 and in his over a decade journey in the showbiz, he has portrayed negative role in a popular show Uttaran and hosted crime show Savdhaan India Now the 30-year-old actor is heard on 92.7 BIG FM’s new show Arth that takes listeners on a spiritual journey every night at 10 pm. He spoke with Metrolife on this transition.

Excerpts:

Why you decided to do this show?

I saw this as a new dimension to explore in my acting career. Since, I am learning new things every day, I thought the experience will help me to connect to a larger audience and learn a new skill.

What new skill are you hinting it?

I am an actor and not a RJ as such. While we are trained to deliver dialogues in a certain manner in films and shows, in a radio show narration is extremely important. I am learning where to make right pauses and where to lay emphasis on while I am talking to the listeners.

Do you practice before the show?

What I speak on the show is written by someone else. So, I make it a point to rehearse and read out my lines. This helps in being spontaneous.

What is the show about?

The idea of the show is to make people understand how they shouldn’t forget the real meaning of life in their day-to-day activities. So we focus on whatever has happened the entire day so that listeners can contemplate and move towards spiritual journey.

You seem to be attracted to spiritual shows and mythological characters. Why is it so?

This is not correct. I began my journey from a youth show and then went to do several characters. It is just that my character as Lord Krishna became extremely popular that people now associate me with that only. But what is interesting is that such shows have added to my spiritual dimension and helped me understand our mythology better.

How do you choose a project?

I do a little thinking before saying yes to a show or role. It is very important to do diverse roles.

What about Bollywood?

It definitely is on my mind. So far my journey has been fruitful. So when the time is right,
I am sure I will be heading towards Bollywood.
