'After a while modelling becomes monotonous'

It is almost after a decade the Bhatts’ are launching a new face. From being a successful runway supermodel, Gaurav Arora is the Bhatt camp’s new poster boy. The model-turned-actor is B-town’s new rugged hero making waves in the industry with his debut movie Love Games, starring Patralekha. Even before the release of his debut film, he’s already signed and started shooting for another popular Bhatt franchise Raaz 4 co-starring Emraan Hashmi. In a freewheeling chat with Metrolife, the actor talks about his Bollywood debut and his future plans.

Excerpts:

Tell us about your role in the movie.

The film is about love, types of love and being a swinger. I am playing the role of Sameer Saxena — a rich and spoiled brat who doesn’t believe in love but somehow ends up falling in love. The film depicts his journey thereafter.

How was it debuting in Bollywood under the Bhatt banner?

It was awesome. The Bhatt camp is launching a new face after a decade. Honestly, it is a huge responsibility.

Tell us a bit about your early life.

I come from a small town in Madhya Pradesh, Mungaoli. There weren’t any good schools, and so I was sent to a boarding school in Indore when I was just seven. And after I finished my BBA from Indore, I decided to come to Mumbai.

How has been your journey in the glamour world?

It has been awesome. I have loved every bit of it. I did a six-months acting course in the city and started grooming myself as a model. I started meeting people from the fashion industry and did some shows in India with best of the designers. It has been a decade in the industry and it is worth it.

How has the transition been from a model to an actor?

It has been great. However, as a model I didn’t feel as creative. After a while it became monotonous. While I was in my college, I saw John Abraham, Dino Morea, Bipasha Basu and Aishwarya Rai doing modelling. So I felt that is the only way I can get into the industry.

How do you see the struggling period of an artiste?

That period was important for me to go through. There was a time when I became skeptical about the thing I chose. But that phase helps every actor in his acting skills. You get the correct emotion.

How is Patralekha as a co-star?

She is good and has brought an edge to the film.

What are you next plans?

I have a three-film contract with Vijesh Films. My next is Raaz 4 which will release in September. And another will probably start in December.
