'Premalatha controls DMDK, not Vijayakanth'

The internal fight in the DMDK in Tamil Nadu took an ugly turn on Wednesday with the sacked rebel MLAs and district secretaries saying the party is not under the control of Vijayakanth.

The MLAs said the party is commanded by his wife Premalatha not the actor.“If he (Vijayakanth) would have controlled the party, he would have joined DMK instead of aligning with People’s Welfare Front (PWF). Therefore it is very clear the party is controlled by Premalatha,” rebel leaders led by Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam’s (DMDK) propaganda secretary and MLA V C Chandrakumar said. 

He claimed that it is totally against the wishes of Vijayakanth, Premalatha had initiated electoral allies talks with PWF and sealed the deal. 

“Several sitting MLAs including us refused to contest the polls,” he said saying that several aspirants who deposited the amount is still fearing that they might lose the elections.

He also claimed that many candidates, upset over Vijayakanth’s decision to ally with PWF, had expressed their unwillingness to contest the elections and some of them had even taken back their deposits. 

“That is why the party is yet to come with the candidate’s list,” he said.

As the DMDK is likely heading for a split, dissatisfied over alliance with the PWF, 10 senior party functionaries, including Chandrakumar and two other MLAs, raised a banner of revolt and favoured an alliance withe the DMK to save the party.

Rebel MLAs dismissed
Immediately, Vijayakanth dismissed 10 of them from the party.

Observing that they were expelled for expressing the views of the party cadres, he said “the party cannot dismiss us since it has to be done in the general council meeting. Therefore, we cant accept this.”
