BJP invites minor parties for tie-up

In a last-ditch effort, the BJP in Tamil Nadu has invited minor parties including caste-based outfits for an electoral tie-up for the upcoming Assembly elections.

The BJP in Tamil Nadu is virtually isolated without any major allies in its fold for the May 16 elections. Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) led by former union shipping minister G K Vasan, which was shown the door by the ruling AIADMK, too is left isolated as the Opposition DMK accommodated the Congress into its fold.

In addition, Vijayakanth’s DMDK also allied with People's Welfare Front (PWF) to contest in the elections and therefore, TMC was left without any option in the last couple of days. However, the BJP extended fresh invitation to TMC on Wednesday with its state unit president Tamizhisai Soundararajan saying  her party would welcome TMC if it comes to the NDA net.

“We have invited Vasan’s party and it is up to him to decide”, Tamizhisai said. In addition, the BJP is also trying to woo Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), a caste-based outfit, which has about 6% vote share in northern districts of the state.
