Opposition Leader in the Legislative Council K S Eshwarappa, on Thursday, suspected a tacit understanding between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and leader of Congress party in Lok Sabha M Mallikarjun Kharge over tabling of the report on encroachment of Wakf properties in the State and formation of anti-corruption bureau (ACB).

Speaking to media, here, Eshwarappa said, the understanding was, while Siddaramaiah would not comment on the Anwar Manippady report on Wakf properties, Kharge would keep mum on the ACB.

Eshwarappa alleged that properties belonging to the Wakf Board had been encroached upon to the extent of 57,000 acres. The State government had promised to table the action taken report on it in the Assembly before February, in its affidavit submitted to the Speaker. However, the government has failed to keep its words, he added.

Taking cognisance of the recent developments in the State, Eshwarappa said, inept handling of the situation by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was helping the BJP.

It seems the chief minister himself is canvassing for the BJP ahead of the next general elections, mocked Eshwarappa.

On the list of categories announced for the posts of president and vice-president in zilla panchayats recently, Eshwarappa said, it was unfair, as the Congress-led government had finalised the list according to its demands.

The BJP has decided to take on the issue, by entering into a pact with Janata Dal (Secular) in hung panchayats. The talks are on and the regional party is expected to lend its support, he added.
