JOIN USThe Chamarajpet police on Saturday arrested six people including the brother of Rayapuram corporator for assaulting a BWSSB assistant engineer (AE).
The incident took place at the BWSSB sub-station opposite Chamarajpet police station.
Those arrested are identified as Keshava Murthy, brother of corporator Shashikala, Narasimha, Gangadhar, Raju, Venkatesh and Ganesh.
On Saturday, around 9 am, the gang barged into the sub-station and started arguing with the assistant engineer Hemanth Kumar, accusing him of not supplying water on Friday, Ugadi day.
This turned into a heated argument and in a fit of rage, Murthy and others slapped Kumar and manhandled him. They also abused him and left the spot, added the police.
Kumar narrated the incident to assistant executive engineer (AEE) Srinivas, his senior. Srinivas approached the police and registered a complaint based on which the six were arrested, the police said.
The Chamarajpet police have registered a case under Section 353 IPC (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging of his duty) and investigation is on.
