PIL seeks water audit at Chinnaswamy Stadium

Last Updated 11 April 2016, 20:36 IST

A PIL has been filed before the High Court seeking a ‘water audit’ at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The PIL, filed by Srinivasa Sharma, a resident of Banashankari, asks how spending so much water on a private commercial event like the Indian Premiere League organised by the Board of Control of Cricket in India and the Karnataka State Cricket Association can be justified.

The petitioner has also sought directions to the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board to justify the injudicious allocation of water to a private commercial event like the IPL at the cost of depriving water to the public at large. The petitioner has asked BCCI and KSCA to substantiate steps, if any, towards their social responsibility. The court is yet to hear the PIL.

‘Produce answer sheets’
The High Court has orally directed the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) to produce the answer sheets of the gazetted probationary officers to the court in the next hearing.  While hearing a PIL questioning the revaluation of the answer sheets, a division bench comprising Justice N Kumar and Justice B Veerappa gave the oral directions. The court was hearing a public interest litigation questioning irregularities in the recruitment of gazetted probationers in 1998, 1999 and 2004.
