A man made a futile attempt to rob an ATM centre  near Laggere Cross in Rajagopalanagar in the early hours of Friday.

The police said that around 2 am, a man noticed that there was no guard at the Axis Bank ATM, went inside and tried to damage the machine in an attempt to steal cash. As he started hitting the machine with an iron rod, the burglary alarm went off.

Srinivas, the security guard of the ATM, who was strolling around, heard the alarm and rushed in. The suspect took to his heels. Srinivas called the police, who rushed to the spot and found that the suspect had been unable to break open the machine. Forensic experts and the dog squad were summoned to collect samples.

Srinivas has also been summoned to the police station. “We will question him to ascertain if he is involved or known to the person,” an officer said. It was found that Srinivas was not present in the ATM when the incident took place and only came to the spot when the alarm went off.

He is also under suspicion, but only after questioning him, his role can be ascertained, added the officer.
