Lovelorn software consultant jumps to death from 9th floor

'Ankitha could not cope with the break-up'

A consultant of a software firm jumped to her death from the 9th floor of an apartment in HAL police limits on Saturday morning. The victim was identified as Ankitha Soni, (27) a resident of Bellandur and a native of Himachal Pradesh.

The victim had moved to the city about one-and-a-half-years ago and was employed with a software firm, said the police.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that she was in love with a man from Jammu and Kashmir and the relationship had turned sour in the last few days. She could not cope up with the break-up and decided to take the extreme step,” said the police inspector.

The incident took place around 7 pm at Purva Riviera apartment, a 17-storey apartment in Marathahalli, where Ankitha’s friend Priyanka stayed in the 9th floor.

When Priyanka and others were fast asleep, the victim entered the balcony and jumped off. Priyanka and others got up after hearing loud thud and rushed towards the balcony. They found Ankitha lying in a pool of blood at the basement, said the police.

They shifted her to a nearby private hospital, where the doctors declared her brought dead, said the police. Ankitha had come to Priyanka’s flat on Friday. She had called up her uncle Manish Soni and had told him that she was ill. The uncle rushed to the city immediately and went to Priyanka’s apartment, said the police.

There was some discussion till late in the night and everybody tried to calm down Ankitha and asked her to accept the reality. They all went to bed around 2 am, said the police. The police shifted the body to Bowring Hospital where the postmortem will take place on Sunday after the arrival of the victim’s parents. The police registered a case of unnatural death, added the police.
