Nitish's Janata Durbar may be discontinued

Last Updated 17 April 2016, 19:13 IST

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar may discontinue his weekly Janata Durbar once the Bihar Public Grievances’ Redressal Act, 2015, comes into effect from June onwards.

The new law will help the aggrieved person get the redressal of his/her grievances related to government work in a time bound manner.

Soon after he stormed to power in November 2005, Nitish has been consistently holding the Janata Durbar, which became one of the most popular interactive programmes with common people.

Not to sound like a feudal court, it was therefore aptly re-christened as “Janata ke durbar mein mukhyamantri” (chief minister in the court of people).

The interactive sessions were held every Monday at 1, Aney Marg, the official residence of the chief minister. Cases of land dispute and law & order were taken up on the first Monday of every month.
