BFC wrest I-League title

Last Updated 17 April 2016, 20:03 IST

Coming into their penultimate tie of the league, two points separated them from being crowned as the champions of India, yet again. With their task cut out, Bengaluru FC stuck to their game plan as they beat a struggling Salgaocar FC 2-0 to clinch the I-League title here on Sunday.

Goals from their midfield maestro Eugeneson Lyngdoh  and Seiminlen Doungel were enough to hand the City side their second league title in their three years of existence.

Egged on by their boisterous fans, the Blues’ got the proceedings off to a flying start. Bombarding the opposition goal with incessant waves of attack, Bengaluru kept Salgaocar on the back foot with their swift passing and smart movements. And even before the visitors could get a hold on the game, the home side was one up, courtesy, a Lyngdoh strike.

Though they had to wait till the final moments of the tie to enjoy a two-goal cushion and seal the tie through Doungel, Bengaluru never looked like a side destined for anything less than three points as their opponents could hardly muster any clear opening at their goal.
Befitting it was when the whole stadium erupted in celebration at the final whistle, bringing a joyous journey to a worthy finish as DJ Bravo’s ‘Champion’ song and spectacular fireworks lit up the night sky.
