Delivering the Graduation Day address at the Chirst University, he said, though the slowdown has caused many job cuts, employment opportunities are still waiting for the students, when they move out of their institutions.

Banking sector is still recruiting people, but it will be better if the students go for higher studies, he opined.

He said that food industry, both hotel and food processing, has remained unaffected due to the slowdown. “No matter the situation, people need food. So there is no need to be depressed,” he said.

Dr Augustine Thottakara, Chancellor, Christ University, called upon the students to keep up the motto of the University, ‘Service and Excellence.’

He said if the education does not benefit the society and humanity, there is something wrong in it.

Three students Shreyas Jain, Anitha Sreekrishnan and Pooja Bailey were honoured with gold medals for topping in BBM, BCom and BHM respectively.

The trio said they never expected they will be given medals and are now motivated to perform better.
