Prakash Jha withdraws pocket outfit

Though his close associates insist that the withdrawal order has nothing to do with his second consecutive defeat in his home turf, the timing speaks volumes of Jha’s annoyance with his electorate.
The social organisation was set up in 2004 soon after Jha lost the previous Lok Sabha election from Bettiah (now known as West Champaran). Run by his brother Prabhat Jha, it was reportedly funded by the film-maker and provided services in the field of healthcare and sanitation.
But a tireless social work for five years, coupled with the tag of “son of the soil” could not help Jha sail through in his native place.
Having lost the poll battle, one fine morning his men reached the government hospital and took away the generator set which provided electricity to the power-strapped hospital. The organisation has also asked the government hospital in the adjoining district of Motihari to make arrangements for electricity as it would withdraw its services from May 30.
Though Jha’s aide said the  withdrawal of services had nothing to with the electoral setback, he did confirm that the film-maker’s plan to set up a Champaran Development Council for speedy development of the agri sector in the region had been deferred indefinitely.
