A senior police official said the body of Anchal Bhatia, who worked in Royal Bank of Scotland’s Gurgaon office, was found hanging in the evening from the ceiling fan in her room in her in-laws home in Inderpuri.

An inquiry by the sub-divisional magistrate has been ordered, while police have slapped dowry harassment charges and arrested Anchal’s husband Akshat Sharma and five kin members.

Anchal and Akshat married in January after a five-year-long friendship that started during college. Akshat works in an MNC and the couple lived in a rented house in Inderpuri with Akshat’s father.

Anchal’s parents, who hail from Alwar in Rajasthan, alleged that their daughter was being harassed for dowry.

The victim’s parents told police that their daughter was mentally strong she cannot commit suicide.

Police said Anchal’s parents were informed on phone by her father-in-law about her locking herself up in her room.

Her parents told Anchal’s father-in-law to inform the police, claimed an investigator.
Police said they were also looking into the Facebook updates of Anchal in which she had hinted at harassment by her in-laws.

In one of her Facebook post, Anchal hinted that her parents married her to Akshat thinking that his family was well-to-do but nobody knew that even affluent people treat daughter-in-laws like this.

The police have filed FIR against Akshat, his father, his younger brother and his two relatives respectively.
