IIT Dharwad will function from this year

Union Minister for Human Resource Development Smriti Irani on Monday informed Lok Sabha that proposed Indian Institute of Technology at Dharwad will start functioning from the current academic year.

Replying to a question from Shobha Karandlaje (BJP), the minister said that the IIT would start operating from a temporary campus at Walmi at Dharwad till it gets permanent campus.

In the initial years, IIT Bombay would guide IIT Dharwad, the minister said in her written reply.

The Karnataka government had identified 507 acres land at Kelageri and Mummigatti in Dharwad and steps would be taken for building a permanent campus for the IIT, the minister added.
