For Nashik-based businessman and politician Pankaj Parakh, who is popular as the “Gold Man of Maharashtra”, it is a proud moment.

His gold shirt — which costs nearly a crore — may have put him and his party, the NCP, to some criticism, but he and his favourite shirt now figure in the Guinness Book of World Records.

“The most expensive gold shirt in the coast Rs 98,35,099 ($161,354 USD/95,856 GBP),” his Guinness Book of World Records’ certificate says.

His gold shirt weighs around 4 kg, but the gold ornaments, including his wrist watch, gold rings, multiple chains, gold-framed spectacles gold mobile cover and so on, on the person take the total gold to 7 kg. “I don't believe this, I still can’t believe this,” were the reactions of the 47-year-old Parakh, who is a resident of Yeola. He is the Yeola vice-president of the NCP and also a former deputy mayor. “Since childhood, I had a liking for gold,” he pointed out.

Like him, his two sons Siddharth (24) and Rahul (21) are also proud.
