The AIUDF has asked all its candidates to keep their passport ready as the party has decided to fly out all its candidates who win out of the country.

This was decided to avoid horse-trading post the poll results, party sources added.

The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief and perfume baron Maulana Badruddin Ajmal had earlier claimed that he would be the kingmaker in the Assam polls and his party sources told DH that both the Congress and the BJP had sent fillers to Ajmal after the two-phased polling got over in April, which saw a record turn out.

“Ajmal has sent out a directive to all his 71 candidates to keep their passports ready. In all likelihood the winning candidates would be flown to Dubai, where Ajmal has a huge perfume empire,” said a senior leader of AIUDF on condition of anonymity.

Party sources added that an internal survey conducted by the party post poll indicates that there is a fair chance that the poll result might throw up a hung Assembly.

Earlier, during the Rajya Sabha polls the Congress had “horse-traded” two AIUDF legislators and Ajmal does not want to take chances this time around where he sees a realistic shot at power.

“We got the missive from the party chief. We are keeping our documents ready. We have no idea where the winners from our party will be flown out. But since he has taken a decision, we will follow it” said AIUDF MLA Abdur Rahim Khan.

AIUDF has 18 MLAs in the 126-member state legislative Assembly and is the main Opposition party in the house.
