'Leicester's triumph proves anything is possible'

Accolades have been pouring in for the newly crowned Premier League champions Leicester City from various quarters across the world and Hockey India chief coach Roelant Oltmans too hailed their historic achievement.

“It is hard to believe that a team that was almost relegated last year, without too much injection (of cash), can now win the Premier League,” said the Dutchman at the SAI South Centre here following a training session. “That shows that individual quality doesn't say everything. I always say we have to make sure we have the best possible combination ready.

“That's what it's all about, the best team. Leicester started to believe more and more in the possibility of being champions. At the same time, the bigger teams in the league did not perform according to expectations. Leicester took all the profit from that. They showed that if you are really a good team, everything is possible.”

Leicester’s phenomenal rise to the title has left everyone amazed. Just two years ago the Foxes were competing in the second division of English football and were amongst the relegation contenders when the season started last August. However, in a remarkable fairytale story, Claudio Ranieri’s men have defied the all the odds to rise to the summit. Oltmans felt Leicester’s achievement could act as an inspirational story.

“The interesting part is that you can't copy anything. That is not possible. Because every team and situation will be different.

“But of course it shows that teams who are not the big favourites can still win big events. Of course that will be inspirational to each and every team in sport.”
