Coastal Development Authority Chairman Nivedith Alva has appealed to Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu to add a first class AC coach each to train no 16523 Bengaluru-Karwar and train no 16524 Karwar-Bengaluru Express.

Alva met the Union Minister in New Delhi, on behalf of the people of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada disricts, and stressed the need for the service, which is extremely convenient as it is an overnight train traversing Mangaluru.

Traffic jams

“As the highway that connects Mangaluru with Bengaluru currently sees traffic jams almost daily and upgradation of the road is in progress, the facility will greatly increase revenues to the railways and will also give passengers from these areas the option of more comfort on this journey,” he said and added that the facility will also boost tourism.

Meanwhile, the Railway Minister has agreed to the proposal and has asked railway officials to implement this at the earliest, according to a press release.
