The Centre is observing the “Swachh Bharat Fortnight” from Monday with employees being asked to ensure that their workspace is kept clean by weeding out unwanted papers.

Officers will have to keep their tables clean and they cannot just leave magazines and other papers on their desks unattended. The instruction is clear that “all the papers and publications lying on their desks which have become redundant and no longer required be disposed of.”

“All officers will also carry out an exercise to clean their tables, racks and almirahs,” the instructions said. Another task during the fortnight is carrying out recording, reviewing and weeding out of files and papers during the entire period.

“That all files/papers which are required to be digitised will be identified, arranged in proper taxonomy and kept readied for an exercise of digitisation shortly,” it said.

At the same time, a survey of all the rooms of the office will be conducted and identify places which needed to be whitewashed.

Canteen and toilets will be cleaned, electrical items and hardware scraps lying in storeroom and are of no use will be disposed off.

The offices will also undertake disposal of “unusable or broken furniture” lying at all the places in office as well as repair electrical equipment and all electrical points of the office. Pest control is another item on the agenda.

The government has also approached its former employees to join the campaign. The pensioners’ associations have been asked to organise mass pledge by its members.
