Last Updated 17 May 2016, 19:11 IST

The arrest of Anand Joshi, MHA official , who is accused of targeting NGOs, may lead to the questioning of officers and those connected with NGOs.

Joshi, who was missing for a couple of days after the CBI issued summons, was arrested on Sunday in connection with a case of corruption and missing files related to NGOs’ foreign funding.

During questioning, sources said, Joshi accused officers of  pressurising him to target NGOs or help them.

Sources said they would question officers if they find any substance in his allegations. Investigators accused Joshi of arbitrarily sending notices to at least 14 NGOs, including Care India, Snehalya Charitable Trust, Indian HIV/AIDS Alliance and All India Primary Teachers Federation. Some of the NGOs were privately summoned by Joshi to demand bribe, they claimed. Sources said the agency would be trying to find out the veracity of their finding and may call officials of the NGOs in connection with the case.
