JOIN USAbout eight people had put up huts by encroaching the land belonging to the Government Primary School in the village. It was proposed to construct a compound to the school under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and the encroachment had come in the way of executing the work. Schoolchildren were at risk in the absence of a compound and the school authorities were worried over safety of the students. The problem remained unresolved even after the Gram Panchayat issued several notices. The matter was brought to the notice of Taluk Panchayat.
Executive Officer DR Venkataswamy swung into action with police protection. The encroachments were cleared using JCB machine. The encroachers were promised of alternative accommodation. Though there was some ruckus during the operation, timely intervention of the police averted any flare up.
