Holiday time for Jagan's MLAs

Last Updated 30 May 2016, 19:25 IST

In a desperate effort to hold on to his legislators, YSR Congress has decided to send them on pleasure trips following TDP’s attempt to get a fourth member from AP elected to Rajya Sabha.

Jaganmohan Reddy, who lost 17 out of 67 MLAs to the ruling TDP, has sanctioned trips for the remaining 50 to Goa, Kerala and Sri Lanka to prevent them from joining the ruling party and deny the YSRC a chance to elect a lone member to the Upper House.

Party sources said about 40 YSRC MLAs have left for destinations in Goa and Kerala with their families, while those from Nellore district opted for Sri Lanka.

Request to MLAs
The MLAs have been left with the request to switch their mobile phones off and remain inaccessible.

In a further setback to Jagan, two of his party legislators – Giddalur MLA M Ashok Reddy and Kandukur member Rama Rao—met TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu on Monday and announced their intention to join the ruling party.

Naidu also separately met with the 17 legislators defected from YSRC at his Amaravati residence and sought their help in electing a fourth TDP MP to the Rajya Sabha.
