Scholars of Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam and Odia will also be nominated for a prestigious award, conferred by President of India every year, in recognition of their contribution to these classical languages.
The Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry has decided to include these four languages in the list of Presidential Award of Certificate of Honour to the eminent scholars.
“A notification will soon be issued,” official sources said.
A scheme for the award of Certificate of Honour was introduced in 1958 to honour scholars of Sanskrit, Arabic and Persian languages. The scheme was extended to cover Pali/Prakrit languages in 1996.
