Dalit organisations have accused Assistant Commissioner K C Vijaya of favouring private persons by issuing khata in respect of the land belonging to the Muzrai department.

The members of the dalit organisations, who staged a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office here on Wednesday, said that the khata of survey number 232 and 234, belonging to Virupaksha temple in the taluk, had been issued in the name of a deceased person. “Now attempts are being made to develop a layout on these lands,” they said. The protesters said that the assistant commissioner had issued more than 400 illegal khatas.

“According to Land Reforms Act, the land disputes of those with an annual income of below Rs 25 lakh should be disposed of at the earliest. But, Vijaya is throwing the norms into the wind and is not giving them the copy of the stay order issued by the court related to the issue,” they said.

“The assistant commissioner does not respond properly to people from backward communities, who visit the office. It is difficult for the common man to get his wok done at the office without paying bribe. The deputy commissioner should conduct a probe into the complaints and take stern action,” they demanded.
