Man killed over daughter's marriage

A 65-year-old weaver was stabbed to death for refusing to get his daughter married to an autorickshaw driver. The incident took place at his house in Magadi Road on Friday morning.

The police identified the victim as Babu. The suspect, Ramesh, 25, a resident of KP Agrahara, is absconding.

Ramesh went to Babu’s house at around 9.30 am, found him asleep and stabbed him repeatedly in his stomach and fled. Babu’s daughter Gayathri, an accountant in a private company, heard her father screaming, went to his room and found him bleeding. She alerted the neighbours who shifted him to a private hospital.

Babu told Gayathri that Ramesh had stabbed him and fled. Minutes later, he breathed his last. The police were informed and the body was shifted to a hospital for postmortem.

Gayathri told police that around five months ago, Ramesh and his family had come to their house with a marriage proposal. Initially, everyone agreed. However, a few weeks ago, Babu called off the marriage as he was suspicious of Ramesh’s behaviour.

A furious Ramesh picked a fight with Babu, and stabbed him to death. Police are searching for Ramesh.
