Last Updated 08 June 2016, 18:53 IST

Chairman of Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) L P Singh, who was in the eye of storm ever since the toppers’ scam surfaced, resigned from his post on Wednesday.

The secretary of BSEB Hariharnath Jha too quit following the intermediate result controversy which brought huge disrepute to the state.

Singh, who was earlier summoned by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, was served upon a notice wherein he was asked to explain within 24 hours why he should not be removed from his post for ordering a judicial inquiry into the toppers’ scam without seeking permission of the state government.

The government on Tuesday dissolved the probe body and ordered Bihar police to conduct investigation.

On Wednesday, as soon as Singh tendered his resignation, the Special Investigating Team (SIT), probing the matter, conducted raid at his Patna residence and seized computer, laptop and other relevant files. It is worth mentioning here that Singh stays here with his politician wife Usha Singh, who was JD (U) MLA from Hilsa in Nitish’s home district Nalanda from 2010 to 2015.

Notwithstanding his political clout, Singh was shown the door after SIT on Wednesday raided the residence of Bachcha Rai, principal of Vishun Roy College in Vaishali, from where the three ‘toppers’ Ruby Rai, Saurbah Shreshta and Rahul Kumar appeared for intermediate examination.

Notice on Ruby’s house
The SIT also pasted a notice on the house of Ruby Rai, who is absconding, and asked her to appear before the investigating officer at the earliest.

Meanwhile, the SIT apprehended Shail Kumari, the principal of GA Intermediate College which was the centre for examination of students of Vishun Roy College.

In the meantime, the Bihar Government has asked Patna Divisional Commissioner Anand Kishore to hold additional charge of BSEB chairman.  Anup Sinha will replace Hariharnath Jha as BSEB secretary.
