Anupama spotted near Sirsi

Last Updated 08 June 2016, 20:00 IST

Even as the police launched a search for Kudligi DySP Anupama Shenoy, she was said to have been sighted at Sirsi on Wednesday night.

According to eyewitnesses, she was travelling by a private vehicle to an undisclosed location through Sirsi. Local police officers intercepted her and tried to convince her to withdraw the resignation. However, Anupama did not react, sources said.

Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) Om Prakash has directed the Inspector General of Police (Ballari range) and SP, Ballari, to track Anupama down.

Sources said that the department wanted to reach out to her as a last attempt to know the exact reason for her resignation. In this regard, a team has been formed to trace and convince her to re-consider her decision.

“Government servants tender resignation under two circumstances, one when there are better prospects and the other is due to impulsive reaction. Though Anupama’s resignation letter does not mention any such reasons, it is the duty of the department to exhaust all the options to reach out to her. Hence, the local unit officers have been directed to reach out to her and counsel her to re-consider her decision. We will wait for some more time before forwarding her resignation letter to the government for further action,'' an Additional Director General of Police rank official told Deccan Herald on Wednesday.

Sources in the police head quarters said that the department or the government will have 90-days time to either reject or accept the resignation. Since her resignation has still not been forwarded to the government, she continues to be a police officer.

“Though her comments on the Facebook are embarrassing, we are trying to know the reason for her anguish. It is all the more important to reach out to her since she is at the early stage of her career as a police officer. The IGP, Ballari range and the SP, Ballari have been communicated to track her down immediately and get back with a report,'' the official said.

Kudligi was Anupama's first executive posting as DySP after getting into Karnataka State Police Service.

In February this year, she was transferred to Indi in Vijayapura district after she put Labour and Ballari district in-charge minister P T Parameshwara Naik's phone on hold. Anupama was posted back to Kudligi after much public outrage.

Police sub-inspector Mahesh Gowda of Kudligi sub-division, who had been to Uchchila (Udupi district) to meet  Anupama returned empty handed as he was unale to get any information on her.

Meanwhile, Ballari Superintendent of Police(SP)  R Chethan said that he spoke to Anupama’s mother and brother. “They said that they would inform me as and when they reach Anupama,” the SPsaid.
