Vistara forced to reconfigure its seating system

Last Updated 09 June 2016, 18:09 IST

A drop in business class reservations in domestic air travel has prompted Vistara, the latest private airlines to fly the Indian skies, to re-configure its seating arrangement.

The gap is being filled by introducing the premium economy class, top executives of the company said. “Business class travel has gone down by at least 10% in the last five years,” pointed out the airlines’ chief strategy and commercial officer Sanjeev Kapoor, on the eve of Vistara launching its services from Kolkata. He said that in most cases, business class in domestic air travel does not provide value for money, making business travelers move away from the category. “We’ve brought down our business class fares by around 20%. We’ve also reduced number of business class seats from 16 to eight, he added.
