Two men died and 1 injured when the bike on which they were riding got hit by a dump truck from behind in west Delhi’s Ranhola area on Thursday night.

Police say that none of them were wearing helmets during the collision. The one, sitting in-between miraculously escaped with scratch injuries.

The deceased are identified as Nagendra, 21, Ram Sunehi, 21. Shiv Pal, 23, who was also sitting on the same bike, survived the accident only with minor injuries, police said.

Prima facie, police suspect that they were drunk. Bodies of the 2 have been sent for postmortem, police said.

“All the three are from Bihar and were working here as laborers,” said a police officer. According to police, the accident happened around 12.30 am on Friday near Baprola.

“The 3 had gone out in search for food. They were perhaps consuming liquor late in the night and after that they ventured out to buy food from a nearby Tauji chicken corner,” said a police officer.

“After finding the chicken corner closed, they were returning back to their homes when on a road near Baprola they slowed the bike in order to take a left turn. The moment the bike slowed, a dump truck trailing them hit from behind,” the officer added.

Due to the impact of the accident, Nagendra and Sunehi fell under the truck’s wheels while Pal fell slightly away from the truck. A PCR van took the injured to a nearby hospital where the 2 were declared brought dead.

After the accident, the truck driver ran away from the spot leaving the vehicle behind. Police however tracked him down from a place and put him behind the bars.

A case has been registered in Ranhola police station, and questioning of the driver is underway.
