In a bid to woo investors and entrepreneurs from outside the state, the Assam government has simplified the process of setting up an industry in Assam. The state government on Saturday launched an online ease of doing business scheme.

Earlier, almost 70 applications involving 21 government departments are filed for setting up industry. Under the new online scheme, only one form will be enough and the applicants need not visit any of the offices personally, said Assam minister for commerce and industry Chandra Mohan Patwary.

The ease of doing Act has stipulated time bound mechanism for clearing investment proposals. The government plans to make the land bank more robust.  The minister said that his department is in talks with the revenue and public enterprise department for getting the unused land, and this can be added to the land bank.

“To make the industrial policy more attractive, we will take up the matter with the Centre for making necessary changes in the Northeast Industrial and Investment policy 2007`,” Patwary said, adding the first phase of plastic park in Tinsukia will become operational shortly. The policy, which was to be in force for all industrial activities and approved service sectors, coming up in the North East till March 31, 2017, stands suspended since 2014.

The minister said the state industrial policy also needs to be fine tuned and industry department is discussing the same with different stakeholders.
