Evening showers cause waterlogging, traffic jams

After cloudy and windy weather throughout the day, the city witnessed rain in the evening. The downpour resulted in severe traffic jam and waterlogging in many parts of the city on Wednesday.

Vehicular movement came to a halt at KG Road, Town Hall, Shoolay Circle, MG Road, Residency Road, Richmond Circle, Shanthinagar, Koramangala, BTM Layout, Banashankari, Sarakki, Ittamadu, Chamarajpet, Avenue Road, Chickpet and surrounding places. There were reports of power outages in some parts of the city.

The BBMP control room received calls on the waterlogging in some parts of the city including Khoday’s Junction near Majestic. The BBMP authorities kept their Prahari teams on alert following rains in the city. According to the India Meteorology Department the city recorded 14 mm rainfall in just one and half hours while the HAL airport experienced 5.4 mm of rain till 8.30 pm.

The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall at many places in the coastal districts and light rain at isolated places in North Interior and South Interior Karnataka, over the next 48 hours. For Bengaluru city, the IMD has forecast generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain. The maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 29 and 21 degrees Celsius, respectively.
